Eating processed foods on a daily basis can increase the acidity in the body. Trying to neutralize the acidity by taking acid reducers like Mylanta can sometimes cover the symptoms of highly acidic foods. Body homeostasis is reached at approximately at a ph of 7.35-7.4. The body regulates the acidity and tries to maintain the homeostatis by extracting Calcium from your bones.
Interestingly, cows milk is mildly acidic but goat milk is alkaline at low levels and has actually been used in the treatment of ulcers.
The more alkaline foods rates higher on the pH scale, acidic foods rate lower on the the pH scale

Fruits, some nuts, some non-stored grains, certain fish, some fats

Acidic Foods = Consume small aomounts
Avoid these acidic foods:
Meats, dairy, seafood, breads (especially white), certain nuts, certain fats, sweets, condiments, certain beverages, processed foods, microwaved foods, canned foods
Whole grain bread is on this list as it is still a processed food, but note how much higher it is on the pH scale than white bread.

Now we know why a cheese burger on a white bun with a diet coke, or a pepperoni pizza gives us heartburn. Every bit of those meals is very acidic – not even counting any fries.
My take away from this research is that the raw veggies are the most alkaline and cooling to the body. As you begin to add sugar or process anything it becomes more acidic. Meats, poultry and even fish and seafood are acidic so we really need to minimize those things. In other countries, meats are used mainly for flavoring. If you’re still eating meat, a suggestion might be to do just that. Begin cutting down on the serving size and upping the veggies. You might feel a whole lot less acidic.
